Child Safety Around Balustrades

Have you ever thought of having a glass balcony or staircase installed, but the worry of small children becoming injured or hurt as a result has let this dream slide? Do you have a little adventurer with no fear? Does the thought of them climbing over the ever-tempting handrail put you off?

Is the idea of balls, cars and dolls banging and shattering the glass a concern?

Well, Revive Balustrade has the answers you need.

Whether you prefer the traditional style with post and handrails or a more contemporary frameless or semi-frameless option, you’ll be pleased to know safety is paramount.

Here’s why.

The Rules and Regulations

The legislation, Document K and BS6180 if you’re into that sort of thing,  require the following:

  • Balustrades (railings) must be at least 1100mm high from the finished floor, where the balcony has a fall of more than 600mm above the surface beneath.
  • Any openings in the balustrade should not allow a 100mm sphere (round ball) to pass through.
  • Where the balcony or deck is more than 4 metres above a surface below, the barrier must not have horizontal or near horizontal (climbing) parts between 150mm and 760mm above the floor surface.
  • On staircases, the height of the balustrade must be 900mm from top of the nosing on the stairs.

What’s more, we use either toughened or tough and laminated glass for all our installations.

These are types of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments.

These increase their strength compared with normal glass.

The strengthened panels are tough and durable, keeping your family out of harm’s way.

There is no need to be concerned about those toys shattering the glass (or your dreams and hard work).

Here at Revive Balustrade, we give you peace of mind that your family remain safe. Our business principle is to look after our customers and their families.
